Pimms mark start of British Summer Time with World’s Largest Deckchair

The old adage of a picture being worth thousand words certainly rings true for iconic summer drinks brand Pimms.

To mark the beginning of British Summer time, Pimms commissioned artist Stuart Murdoch to create the world’s largest Deckchair on Bournemouth beach.

This coincides nicely with the warm weather forecast across the UK this weekend and the giant deckchair is bound to feature in a number of photo stories this weekend. Now, who’s for Pimms?

As a PR student at Bournemouth Uni it was only natural that I went to see this for myself and it’s certainly impressive.

A lot of people are talking about it and especially with the glorious weather this weekend the timing couldn’t have been better. However when I probed a little further, pretty much everyone who wasn’t on my course had no idea Pimm’s was behind it all.

So in reply to your question “was a branding opportunity missed?” Absolutely.

No-one appreciates a huge logo looming over a piece of work like this. However a few subtle touches would have given enough of an indication as to which brand was behind the set-up; which is, ultimately, what stunts like this are all about.
