Air New Zealand have launched another funny in-flight safety video, this time featuring well-known celebrities in a hand-drawn sketch; this follows their previous successes of unique videos such as videos featuring rugby stars from the All Blacks. The airline have quite a reputation for their quirky take on safety videos, one in which the airline staff feature in body paint.

The safety information is explained by animated versions of Modern Family‘s Ed O’Neill and New Zealand born actress Melanie Lynskey, from Up in the Air and Two and a Half Men. The airline are encouraging conversations about the sketch, with the video on YouTube featuring the hashtag #airnz. The video was uploaded yesterday on 20th June and already has over 125,000 views.

The airline have launched a competition to promote the video and ultimately, the business, using http://theflyingsocialnetwork.com. They are offering a trip around the world for two, for entries that can spot 5 or more celebrities; the trip will take the winner and their companion to London, Los Angeles, Auckland and Hong Kong. This prize of course adds to the share-ability of the animation.

The safety video launches onboard in early July and will be progressively rolled out on all international and domestic jet flights.

Chris Myers, Air New Zealand’s general manager for Europe, said to The Drum: “”We’re taking the opportunity to highlight the global reach of our business and to recognise world events and celebrities in a uniquely Air New Zealand way. That’s why customers will see world leaders who feature in election processes this year, Olympians competing to prove they are the best in the world, our All Black Captain and A-listers who are big in their markets today”
