Edible human limbs – and heads – go on sale at pop-up butchery in gruesome Resident Evil PR stunt

Capcom has opened Wesker & Son, a “pop up human butchery and morgue” at Smithfield meat market in London to promote the new Resident Evil (6).

It opened yesterday and closes today, so if you’re heading down there, be sure to keep an eye out.

This blog post by creative director Miss Cakehead really delves into the process and includes some brilliant images, so please do have a read.

Members of the public are being invited to sample and buy edible human limbs including hands, feet and a human head, which will be available to buy directly from the shop. Shoppers can also buy ‘Peppered Human & Lemon Sausages’ and ‘J’avo Caught Human Thigh Steaks’.

In a nice ‘it’s all for charity, so you can’t ban it!’ step, all proceeds from the sale of the human meat will be donated to the Limbless Association.

I for one absolutely love it, but then, I would, as a fan of both the game and these sort of shock PR efforts.

Resident Evil fans were also invited to attend a couple of lectures at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital Pathology Museum, designed to explore some of the themes in the game and their links to real life.

Dr. Morgaine Gaye, a ‘Food Futurologist’ conducted the first of these lectures – about cannibalism – yesterday where, seemingly, 43 people attended, according to this Eventbrite page.

There’s still time for you to sign up for free for today’s lecture about viruses today at 2pm. The lecture last for an hour and is being delivered by Prof. John Oxford, one of the world’s leading virologists, who will discuss viruses and examine whether the game’s C-Virus could ever become a reality.

The butcher stunt reminds me of the infamous ‘body parts treasure hunt around London’ to promote Resident Evil 5, worked on by Matt Muir and Monument PR.
