Somewhat exciting news for contributors and readers

I have somewhat exciting news, dear readers and contributors.

Having just sorted a trial sponsorship of the PRexamples.com weekly newsletter by press release distribution, media request and media database company DWPub – as well as an ad you should be seeing to the right of your page – there’s a little bit of money in the pot. It’s not enough to retire on by any stretch of the imagination, but I’ve been thinking about ways to reward contributors in a small way that’ll benefit readers and I think I’ve come up with something.

Me, just after a multi-bajillion pound business deal earlier.

Me, just after a multi-bajillion pound business deal, earlier.

Given contributions are entirely voluntary at the minute and seem to work well for all involved, I think a cash prize of £50 for the author of the most popular post in any given month, by unique views, might be a nice way to say thank you. I’ve always said I want PRexamples.com to be about quality posts and not quantity, so this fits in nicely, as the winning contributor in any given month could be somebody who’s just written the one post.

It goes without saying, if one of my posts is the most popular, it’ll go to the person behind the next most popular post. The first prize out, then, shall be to the contributor with the most popular post throughout April, who I’ll contact by email.

As I say, I know it’s not a great deal of money*, but the hope is, there’ll be more of the same in the future. There is the very real possibility, though, that DWPub will choose, as they are within their rights to do, that they don’t want to extend beyond the initial trial months, for whatever reason. If that’s the case, I’ll look for other sponsors but may have to suspend the prize until one (or more) is/are found.

If you would like to join the 130+ signed up contributors, please do so here, but bear with me as it might take a day or two to work through setting people up.

*That said, it will buy you:

  • Thirty three and a half McDonalds double cheeseburgers (16,415 calories – funnily enough, the exact same amount of calories Rik Waller has for breakfast)
  • One hundred and seventy four Durex condoms from Amazon (extra safe ones, I don’t want to be responsible for little yous)
  • Sixty nine packs of ASDA Smartprice Breaded Chicken Nuggets (1,388 nuggets of questionable nutritional value)
  • A £50 gift voucher
  • And many other things costing up to £50. Unless you want to put it to something that costs more than £50.

If you enjoyed this, please feel free to sign up to the PRexamples.com newsletter here, listing the top five PR and marketing stunts and campaigns each week, based on the best-read posts on the site.
