Ben & Jerry’s piggybacks on legalised marijuana with hilarious tweet

By on Friday, January 3, 2014

Sometimes the simple ideas are the best. We’ve all seen the power of a well-timed tweet with Oreo’s infamous blackout comment during the Super Bowl. Now Ben & Jerry’s have taken a tongue-in-cheek approach to the recent legalisation of marijuana in Colorado by tweeting: “BREAKING NEWS: We’re hearing reports of stores selling out of Ben & Jerry’s in Colorado. What’s up with that?”

Referring to one of the most common side effects of smoking the drug, insatiable hunger, or ‘the munchies’ as the cool kids say, the ice cream brand’s message has gone viral, very cleverly putting itself at the front of the high, hungry consumer’s mind.

The tweet quickly saw retweets and favourites by the dozen (total at time of writing standing at 10,404 and 6,259 respectively), as well as earning the praises of TIME, Mashable and the Huffington Post
