Netflix partnered with Tool, a production company to craft an experiment as part of their promotion for one of their recent new shows – ‘Sense8’. Created by J. Michael Straczynski, along with Lana and Andy Wachowski, the show tells the story of 8 strangers from different parts of the world that find themselves suddenly connected to each other by thoughts, feelings and action.

They created the “Brainwave Symphony,” an original piece of music created from people’s brainwaves. They invited 8 strangers and created the “symphony” by attaching electroencephalograph— EEG—sensors to their heads while binge-watching the 12 episodes from the first season and then sat through a common set of visual and aural stimuli.

The symphony was conceived like a jazz chart allowing the music to be created and built on the moment following their individual brainwaves. The entire composition was build to work like an overture for the first season, divided into three main sections: the chaotic and confusing beginning, the the clarity from the build-up, and finally the climax from the united cluster of characters.
